Image # A58-293; I captured this image of St. Mary's Catholic Church while traveling thru the small community of Gorham, Kansas. Gorham was not an original Volga German colony, but the parish was an off-shoot of St.Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria; which is known to many as the "Cathedral of the Plains". Due to the difficulties encountered by poor weather conditions and bad roads, traveling to Victoria was a hardship; thus the inauguration of this parish. The first church service at St. Mary's was on Christmas Day, 1898.
