Image # A58-106; This digital image of a Komodo Dragon was captured while visiting the Sedgwick County Zoo.  A Komodo Dragon can grow up to ten feet long, it is the largest lizard in the world.  Discovered by science at the start of the 20th century, some 6,000 Komodo Dragons are restricted to a few small islands in Indonesia.  On these islands, they rule supreme.  They can run as fast as a large dog for short stretches and they merely injure their prey which is brought down shortly by the deadly bacteria from their mouths.  They have about 60 teeth which are laterally compressed with serrated edges, resembling those of flesh-eating sharks that they replace frequently. They spend their days sunning and their nights in shallow burrows.
