Image # A58-352; I captured this picturesque image of a water fall near Elk Falls, Kansas.  The waterfall is tucked in the rolling landscape of the Flint Hills along U.S. Highway 160.  Elk Falls is a natural limestone formation where the slow running river picks up speed as it flows through shallow, rocky flats and down a slight decline, where it slows again just before its sudden, powerful drop off the sharp limestone bedrock. The falls can make an impressive roar after a good rainfall; and impressive, too, is the deep boulder strewn river canyon in which it is located.  However, this is Kansas; and it has been known to be called Elk Trickle during the dry season.  I have been honored by the appearance of this photo as “PHOTO OF THE WEEK” on the Wichita Photographers website.
