Image # A58-188; I captured this picturesque image of the fall colors while visiting the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery which is located within the Fort Leavenworth military complex one mile west of the Missouri River in Leavenworth, Kansas.   This 36-acre site is on gently sloping land.   Graves were originally marked by head and footboards or stakes, which were later replaced with upright marble headstones.   The General Henry Leavenworth monument is located directly east of the lodge near the flagpole, and is dedicated to Henry Leavenworth, for whom the fort and city is named.
